Graduate Programmes in Germany: How BMW, Beiersdorf, E.ON, EY and EnBW Compare

Graduate programmes can look similar in a search result and feel very different once you join. The useful comparison is what you will actually do, how often you will move, and where the programme is intended to take you.

We compared ten CareerFairy Live Streams with BMW, Beiersdorf, E.ON, EY Germany and EnBW. The recordings include several BMW cohorts, Beiersdorf's shift from Beyond Borders to BEYOND, and two distinct EnBW routes. Start with the BMW trainee conversation and EnBW programme comparison, then use the complete source list below to explore the others. Watch the recordings: Beiersdorf (2026-04-23), BMW Group (2025-09-16), BMW Group (2026-04-08), BMW Group (2026-09-15), BMW Group (2025-03-27), E.ON (2025-11-19), EY Germany (2026-03-10), EnBW AG (2025-04-29), E.ON (2025-11-27), Beiersdorf (2025-04-23).

The quick answer: Compare the programme's professional focus, rotation structure, eligibility and intended career direction before comparing employer names. BMW offers several perspectives within a field, Beiersdorf's newer BEYOND presentation emphasises future leadership, E.ON combines a focus area with cross-functional exposure, EY develops expertise within service lines, and EnBW distinguishes a broad corporate route from a network-focused programme.

These are accounts from 2025 and 2026, rather than a list of vacancies currently open. Requirements and programme designs can change between intakes. Check the current position before applying, particularly where recordings describe different versions.

What does a graduate programme give you that a direct-entry job may not?

The main additional offer in these recordings is organised exposure to several teams, alongside a development and support structure.

That can help when you know the broad field you want to enter but have not yet decided which role within it suits you. The exposure is still bounded by the programme. A finance track is not the same as an unrestricted tour of every possible profession.

The speakers also described real work during rotations. BMW trainees worked on cloud transformation, vehicle technology and battery systems. EnBW's corporate trainee described assessing projects from technical, policy, financial and sustainability perspectives. The value comes from using those different assignments to understand how the organisation works.

There is a trade-off. Changing teams means repeatedly learning new systems and relationships. BMW's April 2026 trainee looked forward to spending longer in one department after the programme, even while valuing the rotations. E.ON trainees similarly acknowledged that starting again in a new placement requires adaptability.

If you already know the team and specialist work you want, direct entry deserves serious consideration too. A programme is useful when its particular structure helps you develop, rather than simply because it carries the graduate label.

How does BMW AcceleratiON work?

Across four BMW conversations, the central structure remained an 18-month programme with domestic and international assignments.

The September 2026 speaker described two domestic assignments of around six months and two international assignments of around three months. Trainees planned later placements with support from a mentor. Earlier speakers likewise described significant choice, provided the placement made professional sense and a receiving team could support it.

The projects show how varied one field can become. The April 2026 IT and AI trainee began in cloud transformation and then moved abroad. The September 2026 production-and-logistics trainee discussed battery-related work from several angles. These are individual examples, rather than a promise that every trainee will follow the same itinerary.

BMW speakers described a permanent employment contract from the start. The programme was a development phase within employment, rather than an 18-month internship. They also discussed paths towards specialist as well as management careers.

Ask whether you enjoy connecting teams and learning quickly in unfamiliar settings. The programme's breadth can be attractive, but shorter placements may leave less time to master a technically complex assignment than a longer period in one department.

What changed between Beiersdorf Beyond Borders and BEYOND?

The April 2025 Digital & IT recording described Beyond Borders as an individual 18-month journey, based in Hamburg, with an international placement and a cross-functional step.

Its speakers described planning assignments with managers and a mentor, while recognising that a destination had to make sense for the project and receiving team. The Digital & IT route had some mandatory steps to establish a useful foundation. The programme also came with a permanent contract in that presentation.

In April 2026, Beiersdorf introduced BEYOND as a shift from the earlier programme. The new presentation explicitly focused on developing future leaders. It retained an 18-month structure starting in Hamburg, with international and cross-functional exposure, and added emphasis on development steps and a social project.

That leadership emphasis is a meaningful distinction. The 2026 recruiter encouraged students to consider whether leadership was the path they wanted. Curiosity, ownership, global collaboration, critical thinking, digital affinity and adaptability formed part of the profile discussed.

Use the 2025 recording for insight into the earlier trainee experience and the 2026 recording for the newer direction. Do not assume every old process detail, track opening or benefit applies unchanged to a later BEYOND vacancy.

What is distinctive about E.ON's International Graduate Programme?

E.ON's two trainee conversations presented a two-year programme organised around a focus area, with room to explore other functions and locations.

In the English-language session, the speakers described three placements in the chosen focus area and at least one cross-functional placement. The areas discussed included energy networks, infrastructure solutions, retail, trading, IT, finance and procurement. Which areas are recruiting can vary by intake.

The trainees emphasised personal responsibility for shaping the journey. One energy-retail trainee planned to explore network strategy in Sweden. Another described moving from learning and development into a more technical mobility-related team. These examples illustrate choice within the business, rather than a fixed route for every participant.

E.ON also described coaching, development camps, mentoring and a buddy system. The support matters because a large range of options can initially feel overwhelming. The trainees' advice was to take the journey step by step and remain open to learning.

The conversations encouraged applicants without an energy-industry background to check the requirements and apply where their experience fit. Interest in the sector and relevant capability mattered; previous employment at an energy company was not presented as the only route.

What do EY's PLUS trainee programmes focus on?

EY Germany's March 2026 session described FinancePLUS and TaxPLUS as development routes within its professional services work.

FinancePLUS was presented as a 24-month programme, while TaxPLUS ran for 18 months. Both combined a foundation in a home service line with rotations, including international experience. The different lengths are a reminder that even one employer's graduate programmes can have different designs.

The speakers discussed support from a buddy and counsellor, training shared with direct entrants, and access to a trainee network. One participant described a rotation in forensic services and an international assignment in London. That example shows how related service areas can broaden professional understanding.

The comparison with BMW or Beiersdorf is therefore about the type of breadth. EY's recordings centre on understanding professional service lines and building expertise around a home team. A consumer-goods leadership programme or an industrial engineering route exposes you to different kinds of business problems.

Before applying, identify the work you want to learn. Ask how the home service line is selected, which rotations are available and how they connect to your longer-term role. The programme name alone will not answer those questions.

How do EnBW's Corporate Trainee programme and getready4NETZ differ?

EnBW's April 2025 session made the distinction especially clear: one route explored the wider group, while the other concentrated on networks.

The Corporate Trainee programme was presented as a 20-month journey with national placements, international exposure, a practical operational assignment and trainee-group learning periods. Mentoring and individual development discussions supported the rotations.

The corporate trainee's example connected energy projects to regulation, financing and sustainability. He described seeing how political conditions and commercial assessments influence whether a technical project can proceed. That is useful breadth for someone interested in how an energy business makes decisions.

getready4NETZ was more focused on network activities. The speakers described a flexible duration of 18–24 months, with three to six placements, generally lasting four to six months each. The programme included opportunities to see operational work and connect office-based projects to the physical network.

The choice is therefore not simply between two versions of the same experience. If networks are already your main interest, the focused route may make more sense. If you want to understand several parts of an energy group, investigate the corporate route. EnBW asked applicants in that session to choose one of the two programmes.

Can you apply with a Bachelor's degree?

There is no answer that applies across every programme in the recordings.

BMW speakers said a Bachelor's degree could qualify, while a Master's was preferred. They also discussed relevant practical experience and international experience. The specific figures varied: the April 2026 conversation referred to four months abroad, while September 2026 referred to five. Treat that difference as a reason to read the current requirement, rather than choosing whichever recording is easier to meet.

Beiersdorf's 2025 Digital & IT session discussed both Bachelor's and Master's graduates. Its recruiter also said a previous stay abroad was not a compulsory requirement in that presentation. That differs from BMW's discussion and should not be flattened into a general rule about international graduate programmes.

EnBW's 2025 corporate route accepted a Master's degree or a Bachelor's degree with around two years of relevant post-degree professional experience. The speakers clarified that student employment was not the same as that post-degree experience. getready4NETZ required a Master's degree in the presentation.

E.ON's German-language session likewise discussed Master's applicants and Bachelor's applicants with professional experience. Read the particular focus-area vacancy for the exact conditions. For EY, use the current service-line posting to confirm degree, subject and language expectations.

How should you compare application processes?

Look for the stages you need to prepare for, rather than assuming every programme runs the same assessment centre.

BMW described an online application, assessment, review, video interview and final selection activities. The September 2026 speaker said the assessment had to be completed within seven days of applying for the process discussed.

Beiersdorf's 2025 session described a reasoning test, recorded video interview and virtual selection day including interview, case and role-play exercises. Its 2026 BEYOND presentation described a cognitive test too, but gave a different approximate duration. Another reason to follow the current invitation closely.

EY's PLUS discussion described recruiter review, assessment by the relevant team and an interview invitation. E.ON trainees discussed assessment-centre activities and preparing by learning about the company. The preparation should follow the employer's actual instructions, not the assumption that every graduate scheme uses identical exercises.

How do you make a shortlist that fits you?

Use four questions to turn the recordings into a practical decision.

  1. Which business problems do I want to work on: industrial technology, skincare and consumer goods, energy, or professional services?
  2. Do I want broad exploration, a specific professional track, or explicit leadership development?
  3. Am I willing and able to change teams and locations during the programme?
  4. Do I meet the current degree, experience and language requirements?

Then ask about the destination after the programme. A permanent contract is valuable context, but it does not tell you which team you will join. EnBW's corporate trainee described actively finding a suitable follow-on position during the programme. Planning and relationships remain part of the process.

Choose a small number of programmes whose structure you can explain in your own words. That gives you better material for your application than a long list based only on familiar company names.

Frequently asked questions about graduate programmes in Germany
